Driveway plowing and salting for homes, farms and businesses in Granger Township, east of Medina, from Remsen Road and Windfall Road to the I-271 interchange at SR 94. Send your address and drive length for a quote from a local contractor.

One request form reaches a local contractor for long driveways, farm lanes, homes and business lots. Hinckley lies to the north, Sharon to the south and Medina Township to the west, with Bath, Richfield and Copley townships across the county line.

Granger Township is run by three trustees from the township office at 3717 Ridge Road. SR 94 meets I-271 at Exit 3 inside the township, and SR 18 meets SR 94 on the Granger and Sharon line. The township maintains 34.15 miles of road, but no public crew clears a private drive, a farm lane or a business lot near the interchange.

How are Granger Township roads plowed?

Granger Township maintains 34.15 miles of road under Service Director Mark Novak, appointed in 2012 (Granger Township roads). In 2022 the township put plowing and salting of its roads out to bid for October 1 to May 1 seasons, with the contractor required to carry $1 million bodily injury and $500,000 property damage coverage (ConstructConnect bid listing).

County roads are plowed by the Medina County Highway Department, and state routes and the interstate, including SR 94, SR 18 and I-271, by ODOT. The township's road list sorts every road by who maintains it.

Why plan for long driveways in Granger?

Granger has about 195 people per square mile and no village center, against about 510 in Medina Township next door. Long rural drives take more passes and more salt than a short suburban apron.

Ask for driveway snow plowing by length and layout. Mention gates, culverts or soft edges so the contractor can mark them before the ground freezes.

About Granger, Ohio

Granger Township was organized in 1820 and named by popular vote for Gideon Granger, a Connecticut legislator who served as U.S. Postmaster General from 1801 to 1814 under Thomas Jefferson and James Madison (Wikipedia). It is the only Granger Township in Ohio, and Highland High School sits within it.

The township's farm history is still visible in its parks. Stan and Esther Allard donated their three-generation farm in 1992, and Stan Allard had planted more than 100,000 trees on its steep ground starting in the 1930s (Medina County Parks: Allardale). The Granger Wetlands site hosted horse races in the 1890s before it was drained into Granger Ditch for farming (Medina County Parks: Granger Wetlands).

Remsen Corners, in the township's north, is named for Remson, an early New York land speculator (Wikipedia: Remsen Corners). Carolyn Ludwig Mugrage Park, on Windfall Road, is another donated family farm.

Weather and climate in Granger

Granger has a humid continental climate, and the nearest long-term record is Akron-Canton Airport, which averages 47.2 inches of snow a season (1991 to 2020), with January the snowiest month at 13.4 inches and the coldest at 27.9 °F (Wikipedia: Akron climate, NOAA normals). Cleveland Hopkins, closer to the lake, averages 63.8 inches (Wikipedia: Cleveland climate).

At about 1,138 feet, Granger sits higher than Medina Township (1,014 ft) or Montville (965 ft), and it lies north of SR 18, which meets SR 94 on the Granger and Sharon line (Wikipedia: SR 18). The Medina County Engineer says areas north of SR 18 generally get more snow than areas south of it (County Engineer highway FAQ).

Northern and central Medina County fall in Northeast Ohio's secondary snowbelt (Cleveland 19). NWS Cleveland's Akron-Canton snowfall page keeps the season-by-season record.

Why request snow removal in Granger through Medina Snow Removal

Requesting snow removal in Granger Township through Medina Snow Removal takes one short form. Your address, drive length and what you need cleared go to a local contractor who works the township and understands its long drives, open fields and split between township, county and ODOT roads.

Snow Removal questions from Granger property owners

Which ZIP codes cover Granger Township?
The township office and the Granger Wetlands use Medina's 44256, and parts of the township fall in 44233 (Hinckley), 44281 (Wadsworth) and 44333 (Akron). Requests from any of those addresses are welcome as long as the property sits inside Granger Township.
Does Granger Township hire a contractor to plow its roads?
In 2022 the township put plowing and salting of its 34.15 miles of road out to bid for October 1 to May 1 seasons. The township site does not say whether that arrangement continues, so call the office at 330-239-3611 with road questions. Private driveways are not township work.
Who plows SR 94 and the I-271 interchange at Exit 3 in Granger?
ODOT handles state routes and interstates, and the Medina County Engineer lists ODOT at 330-723-0091 for those concerns. County roads in Granger go to the Medina County Highway Department. Business lots near the interchange can request commercial snow plowing.
Is there a village sidewalk ordinance in Granger Township?
There is no city or village inside Granger Township, so no municipal sidewalk ordinance like the City of Medina's applies. Owners with walks to a barn, office or side door can still add walkway clearing.
Why does my Granger driveway drift shut after it was plowed?
Granger has a lot of open, formerly farmed land, and the Medina County Engineer says flat, open areas are prone to snow blowing back onto roads. Drives that cross fields drift the same way. Ask the contractor about return visits after wind as part of a seasonal contract.
Does Granger get more snow than Sharon Township to the south?
Often it does. SR 18 runs along the Granger and Sharon line, and the County Engineer says areas north of SR 18 generally get more snow than areas south of it. Granger also sits at about 1,138 feet, higher than the townships to its west.
Can a farm or large parcel in Granger get lanes and barn areas plowed?
Requests can cover the main drive, farm lanes, turnarounds and barn aprons. List each area and any gates or culverts so the contractor can quote it on site, and add salting where vehicles need traction.
What happens if a county plow damages my mailbox on a Granger county road?
The Medina County Engineer says the county will repair or replace a mailbox damaged by a county plow, or pay up to $35 for materials. On township roads, ask the township office at 330-239-3611.
Who do I call about early-morning plow noise in Granger Township?
Granger directs noise complaints to the Medina County Sheriff's non-emergency line, 330-725-6631. The trustees adopted a Noise Control Resolution on April 27, 2026; ask the township office whether it covers equipment hours before setting an early plow time with your contractor.
Can homes near Allardale and Remsen Road request plowing?
Homes along Remsen Road, near Allardale and around Remsen Corners in the north of the township can send a request with their address and drive length. Driveway snow plowing can include the turnaround and the mailbox area.
